I have been a Christian Scientist since 1973. I found Christian Science while I was in college. I was searching for a practical religion to meet my everyday needs. My wife and I raised our two sons in an environment where Christian Science was practiced daily and they are now healthy, productive adults.
Since joining my local church in 1974, I have served in many different capacities for the benefit of the church family, and to make Christian Science available for my community. Some of the positions I have served in are Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, First Reader (conducting the Sunday and Wednesday services), Reading Room attendant, Lecture Committee chairman, usher, treasurer, board member (three separate three-year terms), music committee, audit committee, and project manager for a major remodel of our church interior.
Before becoming the Christian Science Committee on Publication for Oregon, I served my community with a 30-year career in the Lane County, Oregon, sheriff’s office. The second half of my career was at the rank of captain. At one time or another, I commanded emergency management, search and rescue, police services, corrections, administration, traffic team, and SWAT. For three years I also served as the chief deputy for the department.
My life has been richly blessed and I consider it a privilege to now serve the public as the Christian Science Committee on Publication for Oregon.
